A 166-unit apartment complex is planned on Van Buren Street near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

Banyan Residential received preliminary site plan approval for the development from the city of Phoenix on Tuesday.

The apartments will be split into three buildings on a 5.23-acre property at 2220 E. Van Buren St., just east of Interstate 10.

The property is about half a mile north of Phoenix Sky Harbor, however, it is just outside of noise contour lines that restrict certain land uses, like residential. The noise contour lines extend much further to the east and west of the airport in the direction planes are taking off and landing, but they don’t extend nearly as far north and south.
