The trends do not look promising for the economy, said Jim Rounds, the president and CEO of Rounds Consulting Group, one of the top public policy advisors in Arizona.
“I think that we may be going negative this calendar year, but I don’t think we’re going to have a recession in Arizona,” Rounds said at the Jan. 21 Tri-City Economic Update, an event presented by the Chambers of Commerce of Chandler, Gilbert and Queen Creek.
“I think it’s just going to be slowing, and I think we’re going to weather it quite well because of us getting hit so hard back during the Great Recession.”
Rounds cited a few national numbers that indicate the country is heading toward some rocky economic times. First was the percentage change in U.S. employment, which has declined for three straight years and is now below 1%.
