The Residential Utility Consumer Office and Attorney General Kris Mayes are asking the Arizona Corporation Commission to reconsider its approval of a new formula rate structure for UNS Gas — the first of its kind in the state.
In February, the commission approved an annual rate adjustment mechanism, or ARAM, as part of UNS Gas’ latest rate case. The ARAM allows the company to adjust customer rates annually using a set formula rather than filing a full rate case every few years.
RUCO and Mayes’ office opposed the ARAM and the commission’s 2024 policy statement establishing the framework for formula rates.
“Arizonans deserve utility rates that are fair and transparent, not a rubber stamp process designed to increase rates automatically,” Mayes said in a statement. “This mechanism strips ratepayers of the due process protections they’re entitled to under the Arizona Constitution.”
