Part of historic Chandler site giving way to new homes

There’s little left of the Chandler community of Goodyear Townsite, one of two settlements that the tire company built in Arizona during the Great War.

Chandler’s Planning & Zoning Commission is recommending turning another slice of what was once Goodyear into a new housing development, but members want a nod to the area’s history.

“It’s a historic site, so I don’t want to lose that, so people know the history,” said Commission Chair Rick Heumann. “Most people in Chandler have no clue that that was the Goodyear.”
