Phoenix approves major investment in downtown med school

Phoenix City Council on Tuesday approved a $50 million investment into the major downtown health and bioscience campus being built out by Arizona State University that will include its new medical school.

Council’s unanimous vote pledged an additional $38 million to the ASU Health project, part of the Phoenix Bioscience Core, from the city’s Sports Facility, Biosciences, and Tourism Fund. That’s in addition to the $12 million in general obligation bonds approved by voters in November 2023. City officials said it’s the largest direct investment Phoenix has contributed to a single bioscience project.
