Democrats call for better effort on affordability amid Trump visit

By Jordan Gerard | State Affairs

Just hours before President Donald Trump made his appearance at Turning Point’s “Build the Red Wall” rally, Democrats held a rally of their own.

U.S. Rep. Yassamin Ansari, who represents Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District and state Sen. Analise Ortiz, who represents west Phoenix and South Glendale, were joined by former White House Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers Jared Bernstein, and Protect Our Care Arizona’s Morgan Finkelstein to discuss the impacts of GOP policy on affordability.

Ansari said the rising costs of living, food and health care are hurting her constituents, especially with the passage of H.R. 1Track, Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

“(H.R. 1Track) has turned out to be absolutely disastrous for Arizona families. So when Donald Trump and Republicans talk about affordability, what they really mean is taking away food assistance and health care from working Arizonans,” she said. “I hear from my constituents every day about how awful these policies are and how they are affecting them.”

Ortiz said families like hers are feeling the impact of Trump’s agenda, the same policies backed by gubernatorial candidates Andy Biggs and David Schweikert.
