Casa Grande council takes action on Walmart, MF request

By Jodie Newell | Casa Grande Dispatch

CASA GRANDE — Despite strong opposition expressed by nearby Coyote Ranch residents, a commercial development to include a second Walmart and multifamily housing was approved 7-0 by Casa Grande city councilmembers at a May 18 meeting.

The request was heard in front of the council chamber packed with residents, especially from the gated Cornerstone neighborhood of Coyote Ranch, and several residents spoke against the request by CVL Consultants on behalf of Phoenix owner KEMF McCartney Ranch LLC.

The request was for a minor general plan amendment, a major amendment to the Villages at McCartney Ranch Planned Area Development and a zone change for 75 acres at the southeast corner of McCartney Road and Pinal Avenue. The commercial portion is to include an anchor store purported to be Walmart.
