The Lake Havasu City Council recently approved a plan to convert more than 4.5 acres of parking space at the local shopping mall into an apartment complex, and alleviate an ongoing housing crisis. Ironically, that plan hit a speedbump last month.
On Wednesday, the Lake Havasu City Planning and Zoning Commission approved a request by Shops at Lake Havasu owner Jarrett Portz – by way of developers Chad Nelson and Don Cantral – allowing for minor adjustments to building layouts and orientation. That change was proposed due to existing electrical lines in the area surrounding the pending apartment complex, and developers’ lack of success in gaining an easement to allow use of land supporting those power lines.
The six-building, 102-unit apartment complex will remain mostly unchanged, except that one of those buildings will shift slightly south of its original planned layout.
