Senate Democrats call out high gas prices before Memorial Day weekend

At a Circle K gas station near downtown Phoenix, two Democratic senators blamed President Donald Trump and state Republicans for the gas prices families will have to pay ahead of Memorial Day weekend.

Sens. Analise Ortiz and Brian Fernandez said at a press conference today that high gas prices are affecting families, and many will likely have to choose between staying home or traveling over the holiday. The gas station where they hosted the press conference flashed prices ranging from $4.55 to $5.39 a gallon.

“We are not talking about lavish vacations for our working families. We have constituents in Maryvale who are contemplating whether they should even drive out to Mesa to see a family member because that trip alone is too expensive,” Ortiz said.

She said the Trump administration’s war with Iran and state Republican lawmakers unyielding support for Trump’s policies were the reasons for the financial pain that families are facing.
