The San Tan Valley Town Council voted May 20 to recommend approval of the town’s first-ever zoning ordinance, a 250-page document built from scratch in about four months — a process that typically takes one to two years.
Community Development Director Gilbert Olgin and Michael Baker International led the effort, drawing from zoning codes in Queen Creek, Maricopa, Eloy, and other Arizona cities and towns. Staff sent 51,000 postcards to residents, posted 12 public signs, and held three community workshops before the draft was completed.
The council, acting in the role of a planning and zoning commission, voted to recommend the code for final adoption at a future meeting. No final adoption occurred May 20.
