New study provides analysis on retaining AZ water

Arizona’s overall water storage is declining. Warming from climate change causes more precipitation to be lost through evaporation and plant transpiration.

How can we capture more of this water, and ensure aquifers see more recharge?

These were a few of the core questions prompting a study, called the Arizona Tri-University Recharge and Water Reliability, or ATUR, Project, by more than 40 researchers at the University of Arizona, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University. The state’s water regulatory agency, the Arizona Department of Water Resources, initiated the project, which was funded by the Arizona Board of Regents, the governing body for Arizona’s universities.
