Mesa is poised to take another step forward with Arizona State University’s planned footprint in the Main Street area.
The Mesa City Council is scheduled to vote on Dec. 8 on a $3.59 million design and construction contract to renovate and modernize the city-owned building at 59 East First Street.
The building will be home to The Studios @ Mesa City Center and will house ASU technology programs.
City staff are recommending the construction contract be awarded to Okland Construction for exterior and interior design upgrades to the building which once served as Mesa’s public library.
The building totals 26,500 square feet and the Mesa contract will improve as much as 12,000 square feet of the space.
Mesa received 11 bids from construction contractors for the project with Okland being the preferred proposal, according to city staff.
The city hopes ASU’s footprint will help attract more activity, entrepreneurs and other businesses to the Main Street area.
