Phoenix asked to extend lease at former greyhound racing track

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The Phoenix City Council is scheduled to vote on a five-year lease extension at the former greyhound track on Washington Street near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

American Greyhound Inc. leases the former dog racing track from the city and operates a popular swap meet on the property.

American Greyhound is seeking a five-year lease extension with the city. The extension also clarifies boundaries for the property at 3801 East Washington Street.

The city projects revenue from the lease total more than $4.77 million over the proposed five-year term.

Dog racing closed at the track in 2009. The state prohibited dog racing in 2016.
