Tempe looks to bring affordable apartments to city parcels

By Mike Sunnucks | Rose Law Group Reporter

The city of Tempe is looking at selling or leasing three parcels of city-owned land on Apache Boulevard near the Loop 101 freeway for an affordable or workforce apartment development.

The land is at 2431 East Apache Boulevard. It totals 30,500 square feet.

Tempe issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) for the land and potential development.

Gorman & Company LLC was the only company to submit a proposal.

The Tempe City Council is scheduled to vote Jan. 14 on allowing city managers to start negotiating a potential deal with Gorman for the land and a multifamily development.

The city wants to see affordable, workforce or senior housing on the site.
