Fulton Homes noted for prolific philanthropic efforts

TEMPE, Ariz. – Jan. 21, 2021 – According to the most recent numbers published by the Phoenix Business Journal (PBJ), Arizona’s largest family-owned and -operated homebuilder, Fulton homes, is the 6th largest corporate philanthropist operating in the valley.

Based on 2019 contributions, the Tempe-based homebuilder earned this ranking, as noted in recently released PBJ’s Book of Lists for largest corporate philanthropists. Fulton Homes is the highest-ranking of any local family-owned and -operated business, and the highest-ranking philanthropist of any homebuilder listed. Only one other national homebuilder made the list, ranking 27th out of 28 companies. In 2019, Fulton Homes donated $1.5 million in cash contributions to Arizona charities, and in-kind contributions totaled $2.34 million. In total, Fulton Homes donated $10.6 million in cash and in-kind contributions companywide.

The company’s charitable efforts increased in 2020 as Fulton Homes contributed $3.2 million in cash to Arizona charities. The company also donated $19 million in cash to all charitable causes, educational foundations and organizations for the year. In-kind contributions totaled just over $4 million.

The importance of education has always been a cornerstone of Fulton Homes’ philanthropic efforts. “Our founder, Ira Fulton, continues to have a genuine desire to help students get a good education,” said Steve Walters, chief financial officer for Fulton Homes. “Ira Fulton is the largest donor in the history of Brigham Young University and Arizona State University – the impact is really incalculable.”

Apart from donations last year, Fulton Homes spent an additional $650,000 to partner with local media to promote awareness campaigns specific to the Valley.

Some of the other causes that benefited from Fulton Homes’ efforts are:

  • Valley animal shelters, including Lost Our Home Pet Rescue
  • Arizona’s health care workers, first responders, caregivers, doctors and nurses: an appreciation campaign called, “Thank You Health Care Workers”
  • Local prostate cancer research and cancer charities
  • Water Safety & Education, “2 Seconds Is Too Long” campaign & “Fence Patrol” campaign
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley
  • Wounded Warrior Project

“In 2021, we look forward to continuing our tradition of investing in the community,” added Walters.
