City of Mesa planners will brief the city council on Thursday on development activity as well as future initiatives and policy directions on infill projects, better placemaking efforts and meshing city ordinances with Arizona’s legalization of recreational marijuana.
The council will also be updated on the development pipelines in the East Valley city.
The City of Mesa saw 1,945 single family residential permits and 1,322 commercial building permits issued between Jan. 2020 and Jan. 2021.
The city’s planning department also received 823 applications for projects from builders, developers and property owners during 2020, according to presentation documents.
The Thursday presentation will also look at how Mesa should approach “sub-area planning” which looks to develop overlay districts and other zoning mechanisms to create more distinct communities within areas of the city.
