Copper is an essential natural resource for our nation’s clean energy future. I have seen first-hand how hard Resolution Copper has worked to establish its Oak Flat project in southeastern Arizona in a way that ensures lasting benefits for the local community and surrounding region. That is why I am disappointed with the U.S. Forest Service’s recent decision to rescind Resolution Copper’s Environmental Impact Statement.
Throughout the nearly eight-year federal review process, Resolution Copper has made significant investments in the Copper Triangle, and in Arizona’s future. Just this month, the company announced completion of a $75 million project to clean up and restore 475 acres of land near the Town of Superior, which had been impacted by the Magma Copper Mine.
