Requiring recreational marijuana businesses to be treated the same as existing medical marijuana dispensaries in the city code and allowing standalone establishments is to be considered by the Apache Junction City Council on April 6.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 300 E. Superstition Blvd.
Changes to the city code are needed as voters in November approved allowing the sale of recreational marijuana. Proposition 207 allows adults 21 and older to possess and use specified amounts of marijuana and permits growth of a limited number of marijuana plants at a person’s residence in an enclosed, locked area that is not visible from public view. It also establishes the Arizona Department of Health Services as the regulatory authority to issues licenses to establishments for the sale of recreational marijuana.
