The hopes of a highway passing through Coolidge, with the economic benefits that would likely come with it, is closer than ever to coming true after consultants hired by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) revealed their recommended route locations.
The study, conducted by Kimley-Horn has been years in the making, with the consultants visiting all the affected areas to see where the best location would be. If built, the new highway will run north to south, connecting the East Valley with Interstate 10 in an attempt to reduce congestion on local roadways such as Hunt Highway, as well as the interstate itself.
“The north-south highway is a wonderful happening, not only for Coolidge, but everywhere around here,” said Coolidge City Manager Bob Flatley. “Congestion is only going to get worse.”
