Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega wants to reexamine the Old Town Character Area Plan — guidelines for how development should unfold in that city envelope — but some have concerns about doing so.
The freshman mayor and former councilman says he seeks to examine height, density, impacts to infrastructure and more in Old Town Scottsdale.
At the end of the Scottsdale City Council’s May 4 meeting, Mayor Ortega’s final action item was to request a future conversation on the Old Town Scottsdale Character Area Plan, and consider whether the council should initiative an amendment to revise and update it.
Mr. Ortega received support from a couple colleagues, but Councilor Tammy Caputi voiced concerns about changing established zoning maps, which include height limits of new buildings, among other things. The City Council voted 5-2 to put the discussion on an upcoming agenda. Ms. Caputi and Council member Linda Milhaven were the two dissenting votes.
