Mall owner using AZ properties’ performance to predict national trend

The Macerich Co. (NYSE: MAC), which owns some of the largest shopping malls and retail centers in the Valley and across the country, is hoping its Arizona portfolio will be a crystal ball to how the retail industry will bounce back after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Because of fewer government-imposed Covid-related restrictions in the state, Macerich’s executives said its properties in Arizona were a lot busier than in other parts of the country.
