All jobs lost in Arizona during the COVID-19 pandemic have been recovered while also exceeding previous numbers, according to a recent report.

An additional 134,000 jobs — a 6% increase — were reported across the state and Phoenix-metro area over the last year, with more people working in June 2021 than there were in June 2019, according to the Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity’s June monthly report.

“A lot of people are leaving the retail and hospitality-type jobs to get something that’s a little more of a career-type position,” Eric Jay Toll, communications manager of Phoenix Community and Economic Development, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.

While there were gains in leisure hospitality, Toll said more people are choosing to transition into the technology and financial services sector.
