Summit Land Management’s Paul Basha presents at traffic engineering conference

By Rose Law Group Reporter

The international organization of traffic engineers and transportation planners, the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), held its 90th annual meeting in late July and early August of 2021.  This year, like 2020, the meeting occurred virtually.

The meeting is typically in the United States (77 years) or Canada (7 years), though it has also been hosted by Melbourne, Australia; the Hague in the Netherlands; London, England; and Mexico City, Mexico.  Paul Basha, from Summit Land Management, presented at the 2010 Vancouver conference on a unique left-turn operation he extensively analyzed.  He also presented at the 2014 Seattle conference on the then newly-published Third Edition of the Trip Generation Handbook, for which he served on the pre-publication Evaluation Committee.

This year, Paul provided a “poster presentation,” a PowerPoint accessible to meeting attendees throughout the two-week event with a designated session where Paul was available for questions and discussion.  ITE publishes the Trip Generation Manual, which is a data reference that is used by traffic engineers throughout the world to predict future traffic generated by proposed developments.

oPaul’s poster presentation offered a methodology that increases the validity of traffic prediction (one slide provided below).  Paul also served on the pre-publication Evaluation Committee of the current 10th Edition of the Trip Generation Manual, and is serving on the Evaluation Committee of the 11th Edition, scheduled for publication in September 2021.
