Pinal supervisor’s new office in Coolidge aiming for Christmas opening

COOLIDGE — A former bus depot and diner is being renovated to become a Pinal County supervisor’s new office.

The Hayduke Building at Main and Harding streets was most recently a private home and a warehouse before the county bought it last month.

The building dates back to about 1928 and was a bus station for Greyhound and later Trailways. The Haydukes also ran a small restaurant to sell sandwiches to travelers.

The county is only the third owner of the building, Supervisor Kevin Cavanaugh, R-Coolidge, said in an interview with PinalCentral. “We’re proud to be a part of Downtown Coolidge coming back to life,” he said.

Cavanaugh said it’s a beautiful solid brick building that he was thinking of buying himself at one time. He said it was appraised at $260,000 and the county bought it for $220,000. He said even with remodeling costs, it will be a fraction of the cost of a new building. “It was a good deal for the county.”
