Miller Road residents fear extension project

Don Forbes has lived in his home on 75th Way in Scottsdale for 18 years.

He’s got a clear-view fence through which he and his family like to watch the owls that have made the area theirs just outside his backyard.

He’s afraid that may be coming to an end, however, as the city intends to extend Miller Road between Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads.

But it’s not just owls and the loss of his view of the McDowell Mountains that has Forbes worried about the $14.2 million project to create a four-lane road with a bridge over Rawhide Wash and put in sidewalks.

He figures people are going to use the new road as an alternative to Scottsdale and Pima roads, which not only means a lot of traffic right outside his back yard, but fast traffic. He foresees Miller becoming as dangerous as Scottsdale and Pima roads.
