The U.S. House of Representatives voted to censure Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar Wednesday and strip him of his committee assignments in the House, a process that was as gripping to watch on TV as it was sickening.
Actually, it was gripping because it was sickening. It was difficult to sit through and impossible to turn away.
Well, that’s not true — it depended what cable news channel you were watching. Fox News stuck with trial coverage during the debate leading up to the censure vote, keeping it in a small box on the corner of the screen. MSNBC was hit or miss, while CNN hung in there.
The censure came days after Gosar posted an anime video with his face superimposed on a character that kills another character with the face of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and threatens President Joe Biden. The House debated the measure in a theater of the absurd that stretched on interminably. So good for CNN for sticking with it.
CNN hung in with the debate. Fox News didn’t. MSNBC came and went.
Fox News covered the Ahmaud Arbery killing trial, even when it was in recess. MSNBC started out covering the censure debate.
