Although saying it’s still a ways away, Amtrak is “all-in” on operating a commuter connection between Tucson and Phoenix.
During a congressional hearing on Thursday, Dec. 9, Rep. Greg Stanton, D-Ariz., testified to the importance of the project.
“Phoenix and Tucson are two of the largest cities in the U.S. without access to passenger rail service,” Stanton said. “As other communities have gained access to passenger rail, and experienced new economic opportunity, Arizona has missed out thus far.”
Stanton said that there is significant local support for the railway, including all the cities and towns the line would pass through.
