Peoria navigates toward uncertain water future

As agricultural properties begin to feel the brunt of Central Arizona Project water cuts implemented last year and the over-allocated Colorado River endures ongoing drought, the city of Peoria continues to prepare for an uncertain water future.

It is especially crucial with the city’s reliance on CAP water, which makes up more than 50% of its water supply.

Water Resources Manager Brett Fleck said the pace at which lakes Mead and Powell have fallen has increased, so high-level closed-door state and interstate discussions are happening to determine how to stabilize those water levels.
