DOUGLAS — The first international airport in the United States is up for sale.
The city of Douglas invited bids on Sept. 9, 2021, because of the interest of private investors to develop luxury housing and a hangar for aviation enthusiasts.
Residents are uneasy with the idea of giving away the city-owned historic landmark, which also provides air ambulance transfers in a community with no emergency care facilities.
Last week at Douglas’ Border Air Museum, about 25 community members raised their concerns in a public meeting hosted by the city. It was the first of three sessions to collect residents’ input about the sale.
