Super Bowl XLVII in Glendale is 11 months away, but plans for the big game are already robust — including on the economic development front.
Economic development groups and agencies hope to leverage hosting the Super Bowl and other big sporting events into promoting their regions to CEOs and site selectors.
The City of Phoenix is looking at hosting a “familiarization tour” for national site selectors and developers during Super Bowl events in the lead up to the big game on Feb. 12. The tour would include a ticket to the Super Bowl game at State Farm Stadium for attendees.
The Phoenix City Council is being asked to approve a $75,000 to host 15 commercial real estate and site selection industry leaders on a multi-day tour of the city and its investment opportunities.
The cost of the program includes ticket cost, hotels and transportation-related expenses. City economic developers hope the $75,000 allocation promotes the city to the right decision maker who will bring jobs and real estate investments to the Valley, according to council documents.
The council’s Economic Development and Equity Subcommittee will hear about the tour and its costs at its March 23 meeting.
The tour would also complement regional and statewide economic development initiatives and efforts from the Arizona Commerce Authority and other groups, city staff noted in a summary to council members
