The Bridgestone Biorubber Processing Research Center in Mesa

ELOY — With sustainability at the forefront of its future plans, Bridgestone Americas has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to help in researching sustainable materials used in the manufacturing of rubber and tires.
The announcement comes after Bridgestone Americas has made a year-long commitment to discovering the possibilities of the guayule shrub, a plant native to central Arizona, and a rich source of rubber and non-toxic adhesives.
The grant presents an opportunity for Eloy to have a stake in the deal as well, as the 281-acre guayule farm off Harmon Road has become a top producer for Bridgestone tires.
