Phoenix City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to approve zoning changes that will allow for a 673-acre mixed-use development, filling in the largest vacant parcels in west Phoenix’s Maryvale village.
The Algodón Center, which has completed construction in some areas of the large property, will add single- and multifamily housing, restaurant, retail and office space. The property straddles Loop 101, reaching to 99th Avenue on the west, 91st Avenue on the east and Thomas Road on the south.
“Their investment in west Phoenix is a testament to the quality of life and education provided in our community,” said Councilwoman Betty Guardado of the developer, John F. Long Properties, on Wednesday. Guardado represents District 5, which contains the development.
