Phoenix prepares to sell land to be used for freeway through Southwest Valley

The city of Phoenix is preparing to sell 87 acres of land in Laveen to the Arizona Department of Transportation for a new freeway through the Southwest Valley.

The Phoenix Planning Commission last week OK’d a city staff-initiated rezone and general plan amendment that would change the property northeast of 67th Avenue and Roeser Road from being designated for low-density residential and parks uses to intermediate commercial uses.

The plan is that ADOT will use whatever land it needs for the right of way of State Route 30 — which will connect Loop 202 to Loop 303 — and sell the remaining land bordering the new freeway for commercial use.
