One year after the city of Glendale’s total budget increased 67% from the year prior, the budget figures to go down next year.
The City Council met in chambers Tuesday night and voted to approve a tentative final budget of $1.07 billion for the fiscal year beginning July 1 and ending June 30, 2023. Next up in the process, the Council will conduct a hearing on the property tax levy at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, and then enter a special meeting on that same date to determine and adopt a final budget.
The FY21-22 Final Budget came in at $1.2 billion, which was up from the prior year’s budget of $744 million. The primary reasons for that increase, according to the city, were increased appropriations of $260 million to fund the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System’s unfunded liability, which will be paid for by using Certificates of Participation and adding an appropriation of $62 million in federal grant funding received from the American Recovery Plan.
