The Apache Junction City Council election is nearing in a few short months.
The 2022 primary election is Aug. 2 and will include four candidates for three seats: Darryl Cross, Ari Kalan, Robert Schroeder and Bryan Soller.
As the primary election nears, the Independent is conducting Q&As with each council candidate to get his opinion on various topics to do with the city of Apache Junction. You will also see a similar Q&A series for the two candidates vying for the office of mayor: Mehmood Mohiuddin and Chip Wilson.
We kick off the Q&A series by asking candidates, “Why are you running?”

Darryl Cross, 57, is a fire sprinkler service technician. He has lived in Apache Junction for 18 years.
Why are you running?: “As a current commissioner for the Apache Junction Planning and Zoning Commission, I enjoy being involved in our community. It brings joy and satisfaction to my life helping others where I can. Apache Junction is an awesome community with a lot of diverse and caring folks from all walks of life. We have a rich history that basically started 100 years ago this year. I am running to serve the citizens of our community. It shouldn’t be about me, but rather the people I serve. If elected, I want the citizens to feel that I am the most approachable council member that is always out and about in the city and helping out where I can.”
