Lin-Manuel Miranda attended ¡Americano! in New York

Lin-Manuel Miranda asked Phoenix resident and political activist Tony Valdovinos one question:
“What’s it like to have a musical written about your life? I never had the chance to ask Hamilton,” Valdovinos recalled Miranda asking.

Valdovinos says his answer was the same as it usually is when someone asks a similar question.
“It’s always been a heavy responsibility to tell the story but also to represent many stories,” Valdovinos said. “It’s why I went this way to do “¡Americano!” It’s still a responsibility to reflect the realities of hard work and American pride and realities in this country.”

Miranda, creator of Broadway shows “Hamilton” and “In the Heights,” attended the May 11 performance of the Arizona-born musical’s off-Broadway run at New World Stages in New York. He attended the show with his father Luis Miranda.

In a tweet on May 13, Miranda wrote, “. . . and @AmericanoBway @newworldstages is a powerful reminder that a decade later our promise to Dreamers is still unfulfilled.”
