Ask the candidate: What’s your favorite aspect of Scottsdale

From the Sonoran McDowell Preserve to its Western heritage and the unique people who call it home — there are countless qualities that make Scottsdale special.

Which of these aspects do the people who want to be elected to Scottsdale City Council value?
Some say it’s the open space, others love the “Scottsdale Way” of doing things.

All seven candidates point out varying degrees of specialness about Scottsdale.

In this week’s Q&A, the Independent sets out to learn what Scottsdale City Council candidates find special about the city.

As the Aug. 2 primary election nears, save the date for a public forum featuring the candidates hosted by the Scottsdale Independent; the forum will begin 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Scottsdale City Hall. The event is open to the public and will be broadcast on the city’s Channel 11.

• What is your favorite aspect about Scottsdale?
I love the great diversity and everything that Scottsdale has to offer. We truly live in a place that is special. That is why I want to fight so hard to make sure we remain that way.

The beauty and opportunity in Scottsdale is that we encompass a large geographic area. That gives us options. Options for differing land uses in different parts of the city. Scottsdale can truly be many things to many people.

In the southern end of the city we have a tremendous opportunity to redevelop many areas into the housing and retail hubs of the future.
