Tempe votes to move ahead with Coyotes arena

Tempe City Council voted Thursday to start the negotiating process with the ownership of the Arizona Coyotes to build a new arena on land currently owned by the city.

The council’s vote did not formally approve the National Hockey League team’s proposed project on 46 acres at the northeast corner of Priest Drive and Rio Salado Parkway, but rather moved the city and the team into the “formal negotiation phase,” which city officials said could last for months.
