Maricopa candidates speak on issues ahead of tonight’s forum

By Pinal Central

Another election season has rapidly approached, and in Maricopa there will be four candidates seeking three seats on the City Council. Adam Leach will be challenging incumbents Henry Wade, Vincent Manfredi and Rich Vitiello in the primary election, which will be held Aug. 2, with mail-in ballots being sent out to voters in early July. The Maricopa Monitor reached out to each candidate to get their thoughts on several issues affecting the city.

Want to hear more from the candidates, or ask them questions of your own? Join the Monitor and the Maricopa Rotary Club as we host a candidate forum at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Maricopa Unified School District governing board office. All four candidates have been invited, and the public is invited to attend. Those wishing to view the forum from home can do so by watching the livestream hosted on the Maricopa Monitor Facebook page.

Anyone who would like to ask a question to the candidates during the forum can show up early (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) and fill out a card, or email jchenoweth@pinalcentral.com.

A lot has been made about what’s to be done with SR 347 outside of Maricopa. But what would be your top priority for alleviating traffic congestion inside the city limits?

Vitiello: We’ve got our city engineers and traffic people studying traffic flow to lessen congestion through signal timing and coordination on an ongoing basis. When we speak to business developers about opportunities, we do our best to enlighten and encourage business development in areas other than the 347 business corridor. We have availability on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, Edison Road between SR 347 and SR 238, and other areas, especially near City Hall.
