Trump-backed candidate for Arizona attorney general Abe Hamadeh was leading in early results in the Republican primary Tuesday night.

He was followed by Rodney Glassman with retired Supreme Court Justice Andrew Gould in third.

Arizona voters will decide in Tuesday’s primary which Republican from a crowded field will take on the sole Democrat running for state attorney general, Kris Mayes.

The field of relatively unknown politicians has made the race a tossup, though one Republican candidate did receive the endorsement of former President Trump. The first results are expected about an hour after polls close at 7 p.m., but a close race could mean the final outcome won’t be known for days.

What is known is that whichever Republican emerges victorious will face Mayes in November, as she ran unopposed for that party’s nomination after two competitors left the race.

On the Republican side, the candidates include former U.S. Attorney’s Office border security section chief Lacy Cooper; Glassman; Gould; Karsten Manufacturing corporate counsel Dawn Grove; Hamadeh; and Eloy attorney Tiffany Shedd.

While few polls were conducted for the GOP contest, those that were conducted all included a large number of undecided voters. How they break likely will decide the race, though Hamadeh has led the pace following an endorsement from Trump.
