The Arizona Supreme Court will consider a lawsuit challenging signatures collected by supporters of the Voters’ Right to Know Act, an initiative that would shed light on so-called “dark money” political contributions by requiring the disclosure of big dollar contributors to independent campaigns, reports the Yellow Sheet Report.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Joseph Mikitish this week ruled against plaintiffs such as Center for Arizona Policy Research Action, the Arizona Free Enterprise Club, the Goldwater Institute and Americans for Prosperity
The judge ruled against an argument made by the plaintiffs – which mirrors an argument made in a separate lawsuit challenging a different initiative – that petition circulators should be required to submit new or updated affidavits with the state for each initiative they work on and that some circulators who carried petitions for the dark money initiative relied on affidavits filed in connection with previous applications, writes Yellow Sheet Report.
