Flower Launch LLC, an Arizona-based cannabis company, has received approval from Scottsdale City Council for a permit that will allow the business to expand upon its current 15,000 square-foot marijuana cultivation facility.
Located at 7655 E. Evans Road, the company plans to expand the facility at the original site and into an already existing building nearby at 7645 E. Evans Road and 7640 E. Gelding Drive, a city staff report authored by city planner Greg Bloemberg explained.
As Bloemberg wrote, the other building is 27,500 square-feet, which brings the total square footage of the facility to 46,550 square feet.
The permit was previously discussed by the planning commission on July 13 and was recommended for approval. Commissioner Barney Gonzales was the only member to vote against it.
During an Aug. 22 city council meeting, the permit was approved by the mayor and council members on consent. But, prior to the approval, councilmembers Tammy Caputi and Betty Janik raised questions on the water usage of the anticipated expansion.
Two representatives of the applicant answered their questions saying that the water usage for cultivation does not significantly impact the city’s water supply in any way.
One of the representatives, Jennifer Biffer, explained that the expanded facility will use around 1,771 gallons of water a day. She said that industrial use is closer to 250,000 gallons a day, which makes the facility well below the average.
