One of two finalists for Glendale city manager dropped out of the search on Monday, leaving officials uncertain how to proceed in its quest for the city’s top leader.
Maricopa City Manager Brenda Fischer is the last candidate standing after a nationwide search that attracted 41 applicants.
The City Council interviewed four candidates on Friday and narrowed the list to Fischer and Jim Nichols, an assistant city manager for Midland, Texas who previously served as deputy city manager for Goodyear. However, Nichols then withdrew from the search.
Glendale’s options could include taking another look at the other candidates interviewed on Friday or other applicants, launching another search or offering the job to Fischer.
