The widening of Interstate 10 between Casa Grande and Chandler will start this year with construction of new bridges over the Gila River but a bill to provide additional funds has been stalled in the Legislature.
Arizona Department of Transport Interstate 10 Project Manager Carlos Lopez told a Greater Casa Grande Chamber of Commerce audience that ADOT’s first part of the project had gone through an extensive planning and review process, including cultural exploration and discussions with the Gila River Indian Community, which owns the land that the I-10 section runs through.
Joining Lopez in the discussion before a packed audience at The Property Conference Center were Casa Grande Mayor Craig McFarland and state Sen. T.J. Shope, R-Coolidge, who have pressed hard for years to add a lane in each direction of I-10.
