Maricopa Mayor Nancy Smith, appointed to the position last August to complete the term of Christian Price, confirmed Wednesday she will seek election to a full term in 2024.
In a statement, Smith said: “I’m enjoying serving as mayor very much. I’ve so much more to get done.”
Among items on Smith’s to-do list are:
- Completing the first of several projects to widen and improve State Route 347. Most likely, the first will be the Riggs Road overpass.
- Land the first industry in the city with high-paying jobs.
- Attract more retail and commercial, such as big box, restaurants and services.
- Build more roadways in the city. There is $450 million within the Capital Improvement Plan.
- Continue to support the decrease in primary property-tax rate. I’ve supported lowering the primary and secondary property-tax rate over the last five years.
“So, I’ve decided to run for four more years,” Smith said. “It really blesses me to be able to work hard and serve the city of Maricopa residents as mayor.”
She said she is focused on an agenda that builds a strong and sustainable economy that moves Maricopa from a bedroom community to a place where residents can live, play and work.
