Former eyesore in Peoria could see new development

A long-vacant property in Peoria, once called one of the West Valley’s biggest eyesores, could soon see redevelopment, if given final approval by the City Council.

Overland Corp., a Utah-based developer, bought the 7.5-acre parcel near Grand and 85th avenues, which was the site of a Smitty’s grocery store that was vacant for more than 20 years before it was demolished in 2020. Overland bought the site for $3.9 million, according to real estate database Vizzda.
