Three electronic billboards are a step closer to going up on a section of Loop 303 in north Surprise.
The Surprise Planning and Zoning Commission earlier this month voted to approve conditional use permits for each of the billboards, which will be spaced out along an approximately 4,000-foot stretch of the highway.
The billboards are going on the north side of the Loop 303, west of the 145th Avenue alignment within the Rancho Mercado planned area development.
In late 2021, the Surprise City Council approved a mile-long corridor along the north part of Loop 303 where three billboards could be allowed with a conditional use permit.
Before that approval, the idea of billboards wasn’t sitting well with some residents outside of Surprise who live just south of the Loop 303 where the billboards are going. Groups of Corte Bella homeowners spoke out at a pair of Surprise City Council meetings at the time.
