Aldama filed his paperwork in the morning, and then hosted a press conference at Murphy Park in downtown Glendale to announce his candidacy on a platform of uniting a leadership team on city council he calls “divided.”

Weiers was elected Glendale mayor in 2012, and has previously said he intends to seek reelection. Weiers’ term ends in December 2024.

In February of this year former Arizona State Senator Paul Boyer, of Glendale, announced his candidacy for mayor.
