en Pokorski is no stranger to Maricopa County.

In fact, she served as the county’s planning and development director, the director of the ombudsman office and a planning project manager with the Flood Control District during her 18-year history working with the county.

Now, she is the Maricopa County manager after the Board of Supervisors picked Pokorski for the role. Her first day was April 10.

Pokorski, 49, will make an annual salary of $290,000, according to her contract.

In working with the county since 2005, Pokorski has served as the county’s planning and development director, director of the ombudsman office and a planning project manager with the Flood Control District, according to the county’s website.

She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a master’s in science in urban and environmental planning from Arizona State University.

As director of the ombudsman office, Pokorski said she was able to interact with different departments to learn how things operate.

“I was fortunate to work in a bunch of different positions,” Pokorski said.

The new county manager replaced Joy Rich — who was appointed to the position in 2016.

The new county manager said she’s had a chance to see day-to-day operations in most departments during her first month in the position.

She said she was surprised by how many services the county provides to its residents.
