The Litchfield Park Historical Society is seeking for the Tal’-Wi-Wi Ranch, with the historical headquarters on Litchfield Road, to be included on the National Register of Historic Places.
The city of Phoenix, which currently owns the property, recently approved the property to be sold for development, so the Litchfield Park Historical Society (LPHS) is looking to act quickly to get the word out about its history.
“It (getting the property historically recognized) is something that should have been done,” said Karen Krause, board member for LPHS. “We just didn’t realize that it was an emergency until we read in the newspaper that the city of Phoenix was going to sell the property. … We didn’t realize this was an issue. So are our attempts to find a government agency … or some other personal, private entity to sort of take it over and turn it into some kind of a cultural or historic place, we’ve run out of time for, unfortunately.
“Our goal is to see if we can’t really spread the word about how important this place was, and how important Col. Dale Bumstead was so that whoever owns it at least has some consideration for the history.”
